Cleaning/Storing Toothbrushes
Toothbrush Care Facts
- Toothbrushes get infected from one single use.
- Oral bacteria cannot be cleaned or washed away by rinsing toothbrush.
- Bacteria die when they dry.
- Allow brush to dry for 24 hours.
- Store brush in cup or holder so air can circulate around bristles.
- Unwanted anaerobic bacteria multiply in low-oxygen conditions, such as closed cabinets/drawers, bags or travel covers.
- Use 2 toothbrushes—one for morning and one for evening—to allow adequate drying time.
Tips
- When traveling, take inexpensive toothbrushes (even if not the recommended type) and throw them away if unable to properly store and air dry.
- Buy new toothbrushes every 1-2 months.
